We had a very emotional and successful “Rediscovery Event” on Friday 9 November 2012.
The Arthur Kenny Avenue of Honour, which had fallen into a state of disrepair, was recognised along with the 106 soldiers who were former residents of the Ballarat Orphanage. Signs have now been placed at the site of the avenue and plaques for each soldier placed on timber logs, which were harvested from one of the avenue trees, which had been felled and left on the ground.
While the signs are a permanent memorial at the Mt Xavier avenue, the logs and plaques are in safe keeping at the CAFS Heritage Centre (4 Market Street, Ballarat).
Many thanks to those that attended the ceremony in the freezing conditions.
Sharon Guy, CAFS Heritage Coordinator.
