Update from the February Reunion and Bus Trip

We had a fabulous couple of days last week (4 and 5 February 2015) celebrating the veterans’ reunion, and a bus trip to the old orphanage rest home at Queenscliff, which was open to all eras.

We had 30 participants travel down to Queenscliff on the bus, and quite a few more who met us at the old rest home. The current owners of the home provided facilities for morning tea in their back garden. Cam is very accommodating and enjoyed meeting up with the group. After morning tea we headed to the back beach where one of the group had their first ever swim. Some then walked along the beach to the township of Queenscliff, and others continued on the bus. Most people headed off to enjoy lunch at their preferred cafe or fish and chip shop. At 3pm we all returned to the bus and headed off home. Our bus driver took it upon himself to take a detour through Yendon. I must admit I was a little concerned at this impromptu detour, but we did arrive safely back in Ballarat just after 5pm, tired but happy.

The veterans’ reunion was held at the BADAC cultural centre in Main Road, Ballarat, a lovely venue. The room is very comfortable with gardens and waterfalls just outside, and BADAC provided a lovely lunch. Many thanks for the donations to assist with the catering costs. And many thanks for the yummy special cakes that came in to add to the food. We had more than 50 participants attend, with many attending for their first time. It is so good to see the group welcome the newcomers, making sure they have a cuppa and introducing them to others they might know. A special donation of hankies and pens with orphanage labels ensured that everyone had a memento to take home with them.
