Cafs launch Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program to promote inclusion

04 Dec 25

Cafs (Child and Family Services Ballarat) is proud to announce the launch of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, a global initiative designed to support people with non-visible disabilities and foster a more inclusive environment across all Cafs offices in Ballarat, Daylesford, Avoca, and Bacchus Marsh.

The program officially launched on Wednesday 3 December, coinciding with the International Day of People with Disabilities.

The Sunflower program provides a discreet way for individuals with hidden disabilities to signal they may need extra assistance. Sunflower-branded lanyards, wristbands, and pins will be available at all Cafs locations for both Sunflower wearers and Sunflower supporters.

“By embracing the Sunflower Program, we’re taking an important step toward creating a workplace and service environment where everyone feels seen and supported,” said Libby Lake, Cafs Learning and Development Lead, who lives with multiple hidden disabilities and is a proud member of the Cafs Inclusion & Diversity Committee.

“We’re committed to raising awareness among our team members and the wider community so everyone can become an ally for people with hidden disabilities.”

“Training our team to recognise and respond to the Sunflower symbol is essential to ensuring clients and team members feel supported and understood,” Ms Lake said.

Cafs is committed to building inclusive communities and supporting individuals and families through a range of programs and services.
